ABOUT THE HOUSE

Located on the Ashley River and secluded from the bustling Charleston streets only a block away, the River House at Lowndes Grove Plantation is a perfect spot for an intimate wedding. Part of a property management group that works closely with Charleston’s Preservation Society, the River House has been meticulously renovated to mirror the open, airy atmosphere it is known for. The interior features both subtle and bright colors appropriate for the waterfront, as well as carefully chosen furniture that reflect the period of the house. Two suites can double as preparation rooms for the bridal and grooms parties. The surrounding grounds feature beautiful oaks lining the riverfront, a perfect place to exchange vows. Huge overhanging branches are everywhere and further the intimate feel of the venue. For smaller weddings that want to be simply Charleston, The River House is a great choice.

WHY WE LOVE PHOTOGRAPHING AT THE RIVER HOUSE

The beautiful environment and quiet, intimate atmosphere are aspects of the venue that our photographers most look forward to. Capturing the bride getting ready in one of the restored suites, with the river just outside of the window creates a gorgeous memory. Once outside, the focus turns to placing the couple by the waterfront, framing them in the tall trees and catching the sun’s reflection in the water behind them. The intimate nature of the ceremony and reception also allows the photographer to focus on the guests and catch spirited conversations and laughter. The River House is the best Charleston has to offer and our photographers love capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments that truly signify forever.
