The Dantzlers {Folly Beach Family Portraits}

I’m excited to share these fun Folly Beach family portraits with you today! Charleston locals, the Dantzlers, last had professional portraits done on their wedding day and before their two sons were born. With some of their extended family visiting (from all over the country) they took the opportunity to have some portraits taken on Folly Beach. For many people, gathering this many family members is a rare occurrence. If this describes you, don’t waste the opportunity for a group photo by doing it yourself – higher a pro and you won’t regret it!

I had a great time with this bunch. The boys did a really good job holding still for some shots and I loved running around with them grabbing some action photos, too! Folly Beach is a really nice spot for family photos with kids because they have plenty of room to run around and get out all that energy. At Riverland Studios, we prefer lifestyle photography for our portrait sessions. This means we like to photograph not only those posed group shots but also grab some more natural candid moments of your family just being together, enjoying one another, and maybe even karate kicking towards the camera!

The Dantzler’s did an awesome job with their coordinated but not matching outfits. Picking one or two colors and pairing those with various neutrals is a great way to go for a family portrait if you want it to look fairly casual but still put together well. We also were happy to take these photos late in the day. Folly Beach can be pretty bright midday and cause hard shadows and squinting, but closer to sunset it’s golden – literally.  Look how nice that soft warm light looks on everyone!
