Wedding Photography at the Old Exchange Building and Provost Dungeon
ABOUT THE OLD EXCHANGE BUILDING
Located on East Bay Street a block from Waterfront Park and Charleston Harbor, the Old Exchange Building is one of Charleston’s most iconic historical buildings. Built in 1771 as a customs building to oversee the booming trade in the budding colony, the Old Exchange Building features beautiful architecture and two excellent options for wedding receptions. The Great Hall is open and airy with blue-gray walls, 12 huge columns and a blue ceiling reminiscent of a summer sky. The huge windows offer a ton of natural light for receptions and two ornate marble fireplaces can provide a warm glow for those popular sunset receptions. A smaller, adjacent room, the Isaac Hayne room, is perfect for overflow or for a string band if the mood strikes. The SCDAR room is smaller and more intimate than the Great Hall, with beautiful dark wood floors and huge windows that brighten any event. As there are many historical objects held in this room, guests must be limited in number and events must be similar to cocktail receptions. With so many options for the perfect reception, it’s no wonder the Old Exchange Building is such a wonderful venue for your wedding day.
WHY WE LOVE PHOTOGRAPHING AT THE OLD EXCHANGE BUILDING
With so much history, gorgeous architecture and several different options for the perfect reception, the Old Exchange Building offers unique experiences our photographers look forward to. While couples typically choose another site for their ceremony, the Old Exchange Building can host your nuptials and the effect is quite stunning with the beautiful 18th century architecture and ornamented rooms. The rich wood floors of the Great Hall along with its many huge windows create a bright, natural atmosphere that produces gorgeous photos of newlyweds or their lively guests. The rest of the building also features these windows and we love photographing beautiful brides in the natural light streaming through, or lounging on the sills, smiling at their bouquets. For the adventurous or history buff couples, newlywed photographs in the Provost Dungeon are a unique experience and offer a change-of-pace from more traditional experiences. As you can see, there’s something for everyone at the Old Exchange Building and we anxiously await to hear your ideas for your wedding day at this historic venue.
