Top 10 must have wedding photos

Hello brides and grooms! As you prepare for your wedding day, we thought it might be helpful to share our “Top 10” must have wedding shots with you. At Riverland Studios these are some of the key shots our photographers aim to capture throughout a wedding day. Enjoy!

#10 Getting Ready – Some of the most sincere and precious moments happen while the bride is getting ready. The happiness, smiles and tears are so natural and need to be captured as the bridesmaids and Mother of the bride help the bride into her dress.

#9 Flowers/bouquet – If you’ve spent time picking out beautiful flowers for your bouquet, you should showcase them. Make sure your photographer gets a great close up shot of your bouquet, it will look stunning! If you have a broach bouquet, make sure you let your photographer know which pieces are dear to you and the stories behind them. We love to know the history behind old vintage jewelry and family heirlooms.

#8 First look – This shot is an absolute essential and must not be missed, and it also makes the decision to opt for at least two photographers very tempting. Whether you’re opting for a traditional first look down the aisle or if you decide to take photos prior to the ceremony, you will want to have one photographer to capture the groom’s reaction and one photographer to capture the bride’s. That mash-up is absolute perfection.

#7 Dad walking his daughter down the aisle – This moment is so beautiful as your father takes his final walk to give you away to your groom. Its always filled with sweet emotion and tenderness. A definite MUST have.

#6 Shoes/Accessories – If you’re wearing anything other than a dress, it should be photographed, garter and all! Spectacular shoes should be shown off, especially if they’re brightly colored or cowboy boots. If you’re wearing your grandmother’s necklace or a special pair of earrings, let your photographer know what they are and why you’re wearing them. We love the stories behind your accessories and details.

#5. Couple Shots – After the ceremony and reception are in full-swing, it can be difficult to achieve that simple, elegant, and timeless couple’s look that you will want of the two of you together. Make the time to have at least thirty minutes of just the two of you in full wedding attire, and have your planner or photographer scout out locations for an intimate setting. You can relax from all the pressures of the day and spend time reflecting together on how far you’ve come. A big key to making this happen is to communicate with your photographer about lighting too. If you want outdoor pictures be mindful about when sunset is and plan around that. If you don’t have enough time on your wedding day to really take great couple pictures consider an “after-wedding” session (A day after your wedding to get dressed up again, just you and your groom, to take gorgeous pictures without all of the pressure of guests waiting). Because when it comes down to it, this is all about the two of you. It’s not about the flowers, food, rings, details or cake. It’s about your love and dedication to each other and you need that great picture of the two of you, that you will treasure forever.

#4 First Dance – Every tender moment during your first dance as a married couple should be photographed; it’s something you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.

#3 Ring Exchange – This is the moment that your marriage is solidified and you officially become husband and wife. The rings are symbols that say “I am his, and he is mine” and if for no other reason this is why your photographer should be snapping away!

#2 Details – You’ve put countless hours and so much thought into planning your wedding day. Detail shots are a MUST. This is how you are going to remember the little things. Whether it be a great shot of your dress, stunning close up of the rings or the centerpiece at your reception, every detail has been carefully thought out and deserves to be remembered.

#1 The First Kiss – While it may seem like an obvious choice for number one, the first kiss is a symbol of permanence and it seals the deal for the union you have entered in to. You may even want to see this kiss from multiple perspectives, so having two photographers on hand to capture this moment is a nice option. Whether you choose to keep it simple or go with something flashy, you’ll never go wrong with following your heart!
